| ブラックヒルズ（Black Hills）とはアメリカ、サウスダコタ州とワイオミング州の州境にある山地。 地図 top 最高地点は2206mのハーニー山。少なくとも紀元前7000年頃からインディアンたちが散在した。アリカラ族が1500年頃に到達し、そのあとからシャイアン族、クロウ族、カイオワ族、ポーニー族が現れ住み着いた。スー族（ラコタ）が18世紀にミネソタからやって来て、他の部族を追い出し、パハ・サパ（黒い丘）と名づけ、自然崇拝で偉大な精霊の宿る聖地として崇めた。 「ダコタ」という名前はインディアン部族のダコタ族（スー族）の言葉「ダコタ（仲間）」に由来する。 17世紀以降、この地の領有権はフランス、スペイン、イギリスにより争われます。 1803年、ルイジアナ購入によりフランス領からアメリカの領土になったこの地は、1861年、ダコタ準州となりました。 このダコタ準州には、現在のノースダコタ州の他にも、サウスダコタ州、ワイオミング州、モンタナ州も含まれていました。 1868年ダコタ準州は、今のノースダコタ州、サウスダコタ州のエリアのみで形成されることになりました。 1889年11月2日、ダコタ準州は、南北に分割されノースダコタ州は39番目、サウスダコタ州は40番目の州として同日に制定されました。 1868年のララミー砦の条約で、白人側は、ブラック・ヒルズ一帯は「永遠にスー族のものであり、狩りの場であり、白人の立ち入りは禁止される」という文言を基にこれをスー族と確約した。ところが金鉱が見つかると、アメリカ政府は1876年にこの条約を反故にするブラックヒルズ戦争を行って、1877年にはブラックヒルズを差し押さえた。 1980年6月30日、米国最高裁判所はララミー砦条約違反を認め、スー族に当時の実勢土地価格1750万ドルと、103年間の利子分1億500万ドルの支払いを連邦側に求めた。連邦側はこれに応じる姿勢であるが、スー族はこれを断固拒否していて、利子額は累積し続け、莫大な額になっている。つまり、ブラック・ヒルズは最高裁も認めた白人による不法占拠地である。 The Black Hillls of Dakota ミュージカル映画カラミティ・ジェーン（原題：Calamity Jane 1953年製作）のために書かれた。 映画カラミティー・ジェーンあらすじ 1870年代の物語 ララミー条約後のこの時、インディアンはブラック・ヒルズに住んでいた。 カラミティ・ジェーン：本名マーサ・ジェーン・カナリー 1856(1852)-1903 作曲：サミー・フェイン - Sammy Fain(1902-1989)−−−−−−−−−−−−−−交響曲からポップスまで数多くの作曲 作詞：ポール・フランシス・ウェブスター - Paul Francis Webster(1907-1984)−−−ノスタルジア、ジャズ・コンテンポラリーなど多くの作詞 |
